40k anyone?

40k anyone?

Postby mauleed on Tue Jun 03, 2008 12:44 pm

Anyone up there planning on trying 40k 5th edition?

I've read the book, and it at least looks interesting. Lots of subtle changes that will affect the 40k food chain (for example, nidzilla will now have some common matchups it simply can't deal with)

How are you going to deal with AV14, or vehicles in general?

How are you going to deal with scoring? When the synapse is dead, your gaunts will be useless for scoring, as it'll be simple to make them run away.

How do you deal with no longer being able to consolidate into combat to keep from getting shot up?

All your shooting just got much less effective as well, because everything is a 4+ cover save. And your big guys no longer have easy cover saves, since they'll have to actually be blocked up 50%.

What do you see as a net gain for nids? I'm only seeing negatives.

Though the barbed strangler does look better, but it kills the things that nids didn't have that much of a problem with before.

Although nids will still contest to all of the other scoring units that the enemy has.

Which is just about everything...which makes it breakdown to VP's...which Nidzilla is still good at doing.

If I play 5th it will be with my World Eaters, or with Black Temps.

Think of what happens to the Temps.

I set up 12" I move 6" I run D6" I get shot at and pass my test and move an extra D6 because of my cool rule.

Ok so lets look at the plus side

fexs and hive tyrants can run getting into hth turn 2-3

warriors can run getting into hth turn 2

gaunts give genestealers a 4+ cover save

since marines are getting nurfed( no more multiple assult cannnons) how are you killing my tyrants with a wall of fexs giving them instant 4+ cover or units of raveners giving them cover?

Can HTH Arm14 stuff with close combat fexs since they now work.

Even worse I think. For a unit to shoot at another unit, each model that can shoot must have LOS to at least one model in the other unit.

If that is accomplished, you check to see if the unit is in cover. If more than half the unit is behind other models, the unit gets a 4+ cover save.

But...if you run a solid wall of gaunts, base to base, the shooting unit does not have LOS to any of the genestealers. (Or at least that's what it seems to me from the reading i've done so far.) So no shots a the stealers at all.

Nids against vehicles are going to be pretty viscious. Killing a Lemun Russ is cake, hitting on top armor of 10. It's only going to be Landraiders and Monoliths that are tough to kill in HTH.

You really think 'run' will suddenly make hth carni's viable?

Maybe, but I'm still betting they get shot to bits.

As soon as we get a hard copy of the new rules we'll play it out Mr. Ludwig.

I'm doing either:

1. mech sisters
2. black templars
3. guard of some variety (probably with attached sisters)

I am just happy they are finally shafting Marines.

They were way too broken!

Maybe i will rebuild the Necrons... but i feel the game will probably suck more than it did in the past.

Nice.

I really want to do orks as well, but I don't actually want to play orks. Playtesting moving 120 models a turn showed me that very quickly.

I'm not sure I see how marines are 'shafted'. If anything the old V3 style 'mauleed marines' will be just as viable as before, if not more so, with a few tweeks.

Necrons are tempting, but the morale modifiers to losing hth make me think they'll drop a notch or two.

Yep, a good charge and necrons can be running away pretty easily. With an I of 2, thats a squad dead with no WBB rolls to save them.
