ANNOUNCING:The Dwarfs of Chaos Indy GT rule book playtesting

ANNOUNCING:The Dwarfs of Chaos Indy GT rule book playtesting

Postby mattbird on Tue May 12, 2009 3:10 am

Hi all, we are working on a new Dwarfs of Chaos army book that will (tentatively) be tournament legal in some Indy GTs in North America, including the Colonial, Conflict, and Crossroads. The first draft is now available for download, and we would like as many people as are interested to playtest it and provide feedback.

Note: This is NOT an official Games Workshop army book.

The book is being written by Kevin Coleman, who has written several rule sets for Games Workshop previously, including the Gnoblar army list, Dark Elf City Guard, and the Goblinoid variant units.

What we are planning is several months of open play testing, during which we will post regular revisions incorporating feedback. Once completed, it will be available as a free download. We aim to have it finished by the end of the summer.

What we would like is help in a few areas:

• General feedback. What is balanced, what costs too many points, etc. What parts of the background fluff were missed?

• Playtesting. Testing will be open to anybody, anywhere.

• Artwork. We'll need a group of illustrations for unit types, layout ornaments, and a color cover.

• Photography of models, conversion guides, etc.

Follow the link below to the forums, where you can download the Version 1 playtest list! I do not know of every forum this should be posted on, so if you regularly visit another forum, where this info is NOT posted, it would be great if you could post the entirety of this message there.

Thanks!- Mattbird

Awesome job guys. I may download and try my hand at some artwork. I'm not good enough to make a living at it but I can do some decent drawings.

Only question I have so far - how do you plan to get this out there to all participants? Perhaps the TO should post a link to the book with the tournaments main rules to ensure that all those involved get a chance to see it before it gets sprung on them.

Heya, definitely interested in artwork!

I have emailed the info to all the TOs, and asked that they forward it to their mailing lists of participants.

Watched a playtest of the army tonight...

reactions - overall not bad. Demoneater is like a mini steam tank and is way under points! Blunderbuss.... grrr.. MOVE OR SHOOT! why are they the only gunpowder weapon that can move and shoot? that and they need to be more than 11 points. 13-14 seems appropriate.

I'm sure there's other things i may have issues with but this is all from what i saw. i might add i personally hate the army and always have so i'm intentionally being gentle in my response.

I like the new version. Its getting closer to a mid-tier army which is where it needs to be.

I love the new Hashut lore. I think all the Lores should be something similar to this. Rather then all direct damage spells its more enhancement type spells which forces the player to use tactics to make them work. But they can still be game breaking if used right.

Demoneater costs is now right.

I still think the Death Rocket is to good with the 5" template. I would either make it 80pts with 3" template, or 110pts with 5" template. If you are good at guessing that thing is nasty against infantry.

I like the earthshaker and blunderbuss changes. Only thing about the earth shaker is the 4+ on war machines, I think it makes it to easy to stop them from shooting.

Overall things are moving in the right direction. My biggest concern at this point is that even with the changes the synergy between units may still be too good. We'll have to get some games in.

cool!

Guys, please be brutally honest regarding critique of the list. We really want to get it to the point where everyone is happy with it, and have no issues with facing it in tourney play.

thanks!
