DE Color Schemes

DE Color Schemes

Postby bdickj on Mon Jul 14, 2008 3:43 pm

So I am starting to paint up some new DE's. I am doing a Wasteland/Lava Base set up, but I am kind of stumped as to a good color scheme for the elves themselves. I guess a basic skin tone would work, and I want to do a black armor color scheme, but the cloth, I am stumped on. I could go with Green, Blue or Bone colored.

What do you guys think?

Well the purple and green scheme has been done to death..I once saw a blue and orange scheme that was sweet...and yes I did say orange.

Although now that you mention it....Bone could look very sweet as long as it wasn't too close to the flesh tones you use. If you give the DE's like a blue tint to their skin or something. (Not make them blue, but kinda a deathly appearance.

Personally if your doing lava bases, i would go with a warm main color. Id say Orange or red with bright green as a secondary color for weapons.

Or if the bases are really red/orange, go with a bright green and black scheme..

I was thinking:

Skin: Shadow Gray Base, 80/20 Shadow/Elf Flesh, 50/50 Shadow/Elf Flesh, 20/80 Shadow/Elf Flesh---Very neutral.

Armor: Plates will be Black
Chainmail/Weapon Blades will be Chainmail highlited with Mithril Silver

Cloth: Jade/Bone. This will give a nice contrast between the Lava and Volcanic rocks I am using for basing. Banners will be Black and Jade with Bone Symbols.

Thoughts?

Jade and bone will look great.

Personally I like DE skin to have some kind of tint to it so as to set them apart from HE, especially since they live in the cold....a bluish/greyish tint on them looks dynamite.

As long as it is very pale, you skin will look good.

Cool.

So for the Cold Ones I am going for a Gila Monster effect.

And for all you CoD4 Fans, my Manticore will be painted like a red tiger. I am doing these color schemes to keep it realistic, as monsters and predators from a volcanic region would have a more "camo" effect after years of living there. This serves dual purpose- it makes it look more realistic and keeps attention on the Riders.

I cant think of anything more realistic than a manticore as they tend to fly over my car in morning on my way to work :) And how do you know he was living and hunting in the volcanic region for years? Maybe he sold his beach front property on the sea of claws to retire to a warm climate. He very well could be blue then. Or maybe he decided the property taxes were too high in naggorth, then and moved south, then he might be more urban camo with timb's on...

I like it. I would experiment with a very dark blue highlight on the armor, just a real dark blue on the edges (I use to use deadly nightshade till they stopped making it, Reaper makes a nice equivalent), then a lighter shade on the tips. Gives it a unique effect over the standard gray highlights.

I agree with brents idea about the skin though, I am definitely tinting the skin on my new army.
