DE so far

Postby Punk on Fri Jun 06, 2008 12:44 am

So I have played 7 games with the new DE.

I like the army a lot, I think it has some great potential, my last two games I have lost and drawn but otherwise I have won the rest.

~Lizadmen Win
~DL Win
~Lizardmen Win
~Brettonians Win
~DL Win
~Brettonians Loss
~Brettonians Draw

Brettonians have beaten me and I drew against them, I also have a single win on them, but all Cav is pretty rough for the little guys.

The Magic can really be potent, or it can do nothing at all. I have played Dark Magic every time, and every game it gives me one solid turn...

I am still uncertain about my list...but 3 more games before I make any changes...

Yeah post the list you have been using.

I actually took fire magic most of the time on the Lvl4. It does more damage then Dark in many cases.

Are you using the Cauldron?

I', trying to come up with a total MSU list right now. Debating on a Lord or Sorceress. Executioners axe is totally insane now, its hard to resist.

Also I saw that the Spearhead comes out July 19th, so the army will be in effect at Crossroads.

Anyone tried shades yet? I know it's tough without the points cost, but they look like a sweet unit.

I assumed 14pts as now, with +2 for GW's so 16 a model. That said, 5 man units are amazing. The BS5 is huge, and the hatred + GW is a nice little touch. 80pts for that...

My list is

Lvl 4 with Black Staff

Lvl 2 with Scroll + Tome of Furion

Lvl 2 with Scroll

BSB Death Hag Banner of NAG.

29 Warriros HW/Shield/Spears/LA champ/banner/warbanner
19 Warriors HW/Shield/Spears/LA champ/banner

10 Warriors Spears/LA
10 Warriors Spears/LA
10 Warriors Spears/LA
10 Warriors Spears/LA

10 Rxb
10 Rxb
10 Rxb

5 shades (ive been playing em at 11 pts each)
5 shades
5 shades
14 Black Guard ASF banner + champ

I have points left over so if the shades are more expensive no big deal to drop some out...

Thinking of switching the Hag for a master BSB so he has armor and cheaper

The armies only punch is combat Rez.

I have been playing B guard completley wrong until my last two games, I was using them to stay alive and take a hit in the end, but the way to use them is to just tar pit a unit.

Last game 5/Grail Knights with BSB and Lord with a unit of 8 Knights of the realm hit the unit of B. Guard, Killed 9 guys and my champ, they held for two turns of combat...

Which was enough to get him the draw, but it kept those advancing elements away from the rest of my army.

Also I am so in love with using US1 models. Its so different than ogres, so many new possibilities and places that my Sorcerers can move out and annoy the piss out of people.

I am thinking to add a unit of 5 Executioners with banner and give them the combat rez banner, it is a 100 point unit that can flank and add some nice CR.

I wanted to add the CoBlood but it just wont fit in my army nor am I gaining it benefits as I don't have many units of Khaine.

Try out a BSB/Cauldron combo. One thing you'll notice is that you can put BOTH on a death hag. That caudron can add +1A to a unit of spears, suddenly giving them a boatload more hitting power. It's a bit slower, and you have to protect it, but with that many infantry blocks, it shouldn't be hard to castle it up.

Yea originally that was how I was going to rock it

So you have Cauldron that give 12" bsb banner ability, 12" banner of Nag ability, and is unbreakable...that can add +1attacks anywhere.

You give the Death Hag Witchbrew, so if people get into combat, they don't get numbers/flank or rear. Big Ranked units aren't going to be getting to it, so normaly small flyerrs of sort. +1 BSB +1 Banner of nag for the win

But I just can't spend 400 points on a model :(

You have 90 RxB shots in that army. 90. And they can all shoot, as the only ones taking up any space are the 30 in the warrior units. That's too much, especially with three mages. You've basically built a gunline. And gunlines ain't kool (you'll get bored, and your opponents will get frustrated). Just my opinion.

hmm...

Never really looked at it that way.
Could be the case why I am not enjoying the army...
Which is why as I just stated in our forums that I have not been enjoying the play style as much...

I'm not sure if I view it as a gunline, but now that you said it I am looking at the army funny...

Well, there are SOOO many cool choices for a dark-elf list. Mix it up. Take out the repetitive shades and rxb's. Put in dark riders and an RBT. You'll still get shooting, but it'll be different shooting (less shooting, and more effective in some situations). And you'll get to do all the fun things like flee/rally/march/shoot, etc.

Also, I've found that 2 units of shadow warriors don't do anything more than one unit of shadow warriors, so I think three units of shades is overkill. I wouldn't take more than 2.

Also elves move so fast, that you can totally outmaneuver things on the ground. When you take enough blocks (warriors, executioners, etc.) you can start turning your enemies all around in circles. Give it a try. It's tons of fun when you get it working.

Kistler

If you take the Overlord with the D3 wound ax, and place him in the Black Guard with ASF, does he still ASF with his blade that has Strike Last rule?

It's Irresistable Force Vrs. Immovable Object- It must be d6'd every turn.

If he has a magical force making him ASL and ASF, they cannot coexsist, so it must be d6'd.

yeah he strikes normal when chargin, unless the other guys has ASF, then you have to D6 it. In all other cases D6 it, its the only way to go.
