Fast recap of the event:
Me and a gaming buddy Rob, took the long 4.25 hour trip down to Philly for Rd #2 of the 'Ard Boyz. He talked and joked the whole trip down. We went to a great gaming store called Showcase Comics. [fantastic store to hobby and play Warhammer] Plus the owner Mike is hands on, runs a great event. I can see why so many people love this store.
Game #1: Played against VC player with 5 FLYING Vampires & was lead by Mannfred. His Vampire with Frost Blade took out my Bloodthirster. Then Skulltaker came in to take out the Vampire Lord with Frost Blade. [getting my revenge]
Karios used a Bolt of Change to take out Mannfred in the last round of the game. My Tzeentch Herald also cast a nice Cleansing Flare at the end of the game to mop things up. He only had 1 Vampire left, after round #6. As the rest of his army was off the table. [fun opponent]
1-0 Massacre with full Battle Points
Game #2: Played against the Great Wall of Nurgle & Epidemius and all his Nurgle Heralds where Lv1 and his Great Unclean One was a Lv4 with a Bale Sword. His Bale Sword took out my Bloodthirster but not before my Bloodthirster did a ton of wounds to him and nasty Unit of Beasts of Nurgle. Bolt of Change took out Greater Daemon and thanks to a bunch of flamming shots and fire bases spells. I went on to win by a major victory and just missed my 2nd massacre by a few points. Pit of Shades had the ability to just destroy his Pleaguebears. [another great opponent to play against]
side note: My opponent had a sweet looking scratch built Great Unclean One!
[stunning model]
2-0 Major Victory with 3 extra battle points
Game #3: Played against Mike Ludwig on table #1, who won this tournament last year. He ran Daemons with all Heralds & Changling. BSB had Sundering Icon [Khorne Herald on Jugg], 2 Sleenesh Heralds with Torment Blade & Sirens Song, large unit of Horrors with Changling ready to pounce on you and swap stats. Large unit of Bloodletters, 6 units of 5 Flesh Hounds & 3 units of 5 Flamers. [great build]
I decieded that I would play the game safe, to make sure I advance on to the finals. [this was my main goal] Me, Rob & Andre talked it over before the last game. As Ludwig had designed a great list. Plus I know Mike wins a lot of games!
felt his list was a HUGE trap game. I know my opponent battle plan would be to Sirens Song my Bloodthirster or Karios into combat. So I hide them behind woods, took spells that did not need LoS with one head of Karios. My plan was to take out those Slaanesh Heralds any way I could, then bring out the big boys in the final rounds of the game.
Thanks to magical movement, I got off a easy rear charge with him to kill off his BSB and large unit of Bloodletters. This helped secure the win for me, late in the game. This was by far the best game & most fun game of the tournament for me. Mike Ludwig is a top notch player and fun opponent to play against. On a side note a unit of his Flesh Hounds held up Skulltaker with ease.
3-0 Minor Victory & 2 Battle Points
I tied for 1st place and went 3-0 only person in the room to do so.
Also my opponent in game #3, took home 3rd place. [happy he did so, because he deserved it]
Side notes of the event:
Got a nasty cold a day before the event, so I was stuck playing Warhammer and eating cold tablet pills. [all day long]
Told Rob that I took a pee in the shower, right after he just used it. [the look on his face was priceless] Then told him I was just joking of course.
Told people Rob was GeneralofChaos, then would wave at Rob. He would then wave back and it worked like a charm! [did this to people who did not know me there]
One of the player's at the event copied my list from the forum. Then he followed me around some, between games. Wanting to know how I play my army and help him with some game tips. He ended up going 1-1 -1, plus he told me his friend was running the same list up in CT. [Me & Rob thought this was funny as hell] But it looks like I have converted a new player to Tzeentch.
Got to meet and shoot the crap with Andre in person. After talking so long on the forums. My buddy Rob thought Andre was a blast to play against & asked me if all Jervis Johnson player's are this cool to game with. [told him no, just me & Andre]
Tried to convince Ludwig girlfriend to cheer for me in the last game, she laughed and told me no of course. [but it was funny]
In the end I had a great time and the trip home was much faster, thanks to the Jervis Johnson win! [now time to get ready for the finals of the 'Ard Boyz!
