Halberds

You get the drift.

Halberds

Postby Bretonnian69 on Thu Apr 16, 2009 8:38 am

just wondering if anyone knew if there was anything about them being able to be used with mounted models. doesn't say they can't in the rulebook and until looking at the high elf book i've never had the option of providing a mounted character with it.

just wondering if it was possible, and if not, why.

They work just fine when mounted.

remember a halberd is two handed. That means no shield, so only a 3+ save. The best advantage of mounting an elf is the 2+ save.

Better off with a lance or a magic weapon.

Bill i give you props son!!! I think everyone should have to play an Elf army for at least a year before they are allowed to build Demons or VC... just so they have to learn to actually play Warhammer not just move, cast, fight.

Bill, you are missing the whole point. Elves die easily. One way to mitigate that is to mount them and get a 2+ save. By taking a GW or Halberd you gain only +1 S (S5 isn't that great), and have a 3+ save. That extra save is worth more then the extra pip of strength.

Yeah HE's have that buffer where they get ASF, but you still don't want to get charged with Elves. Phoenix Guard are the only unit that can take a hit well, and Spearmen getting hit with Chaos Knights get smashed... all those extra attacks don't mean shit against T4 and 1+ save. You can't play defense elves and win.

As for tactics... every one who doesn't play elves thinks they have tactics... just wait man. I am not saying you are a bad player, but it is a whole different game when running elves. You can't make mistakes and recover, you need to play a perfect game and have decent dice. The point is, if you can make elves work, it makes you that much better when you go back to DL.

Coming from a person that changed armies like 6 times because he didn't want to play his army. I've been playing vamps since I had them...

They're not boring, they are incrediblely fun! I love watching my opponent kill half my army and by turn 6 they're back! And then seeing the look on their face.
