Well, here it goes! Another NEWCC has come and gone and I had a great time.

Round 1. Our club faced off against the Rebels club, and my skaven were pitted against Dan Auch and his Khorne DL.

His list:
Bloodthirster
Exalted daemon : MoK Ether blade?
3x10 Bloodletters
3x5 Flesh Hounds
2x4 Bloodcrushers

The scenario was to gain 100 pts for caputring terrain. I deployed centrally, the line anchored by the warlord and his stormvermin, jezzails and night runners on either flank, and slaves pushing to the fore. Clanrats were dispersed amongst PWG and behind slave units. The WplC went on my left flank behind slaves. He deployed both flyers behind a hill, hounds to the fore in the center with bloodletters coming up behind them. The bloodcrushers deployed on each flank.

Dan won the roll and went first, hiding both the flyers behind a house on my right flank. everything else advanced. I moved my slave units and clanrats up, as well as using the PWG to move into a wood in front of me, and sent a night runner unit into the wood on my left flank to march block the blood crushers on my left flank. My magic phase sees a bloodcrusher on the right flank die. Shooting sees the WPLC zzaped a few slaves, and the Jezzails opened up, dropping another bloodcrusher on the right but failing to do any damage on the left.

Dan advanced again, dropping both terror causers in the middle of my line. The bloodcrushers on the right charged the night runners, who fled, and on the left, flesh hounds charged slaves. The other bloodcrusher unit advanced partially through some woods. In combat, the slaves held against the fleshies. My turn saw another hound unit charged by slaves. Thankfully I passed all fear and terror checks! A clanrat unit braved danger and charged the bloodthirster. The exalted daemon remained unengaged. In the magic phase I put three wounds on the bloodthirster and killed tghe exalted outright with warp lightning! Then the WPLC opened up and dropped the BT! another bloodcrusher died on the right, and the line held firm.

Dan took the opportuninty to hit the flank of the warlord's unit with a bloodletter unit (ACK!) after the BT died to the WPLC. His left bloodcrushers charged the WPLC which fled,then charged the jezzails, which also fled, and then charged a ratling gun which took down a bloodcrusher with his stand and shoot, only to be butchered mercilessly. The Warlord's unit held in combat, and the slaves, being flanked by bloodletters, were butchered, allowing the bloodletters to hit the flank of a clanrat unit hit by the overrunning bloodcrushers! My turn saw me dump a clanrat unti into the charging bloodletters who flanked my clanrats, and also flanked the bloodletters in the flank of my warlord's unit. The tunneling team finally emerged and claimed a hill for 100 bonus points. The bloodletters were butchered by the stormvermin and popped, but the bloodcrusher/bloodletter combo held against my clanrats/slaves.

Final turn, and dan had only two bloodletter units and 1 bloodcrusher left. He moved the only unengaged bloodletter unit to contest a terrain piece and went to combat. Final turn, his bloodletters and bloodcrushers failed to destroy my slaves/clanrats and popped, giving me a 20 point win and a 1-0 start.

Roun d 2 rolled in and I knew my match up would be hard. I faced off against Alex and his Ogre army sporting 3 butchers and a ton of S6 hits from Ironguts. This scenario was hidden deployment, we had to hide our deployment by drawing it.

I lost the game on deployment. I won't go into too many details, but through a combination of more experience with his ogres and poor deployment on my behalf, Alex beat me soundly. he was ablke to encircle my force and destroy it piecemeal. At the end of the game, despite neither of us losing major units, he had the majority of his army left and had killed all of my support units, which allowed him to seal a victory. I got a 7 point loss.

Round 3 came along and I faced another tough opponent, Pete Havel and his Undivided beast list. This was a king of the hill game, and it easily favored my force. I deployed centrally with supporting units on the flanks, and made a mad dash for the objective. Pete set his huge unit of bestigor opposite the stormvermin and both went straight at each other.

Pete got first turn and advanced cautiously but took the objective. I advanced en masse, but stayed out of charge range of his big units and minotaurs. My shooting first turn didnt do much, but I'd definately need it to come through later.

Second turn saw pete move the bestigor onto the objective and bring on 2 ambushing beast herds near my guns. He charged a few slave units which fled and got away. I charged the Bestigor unit and turned my guns on his centigor and ambushers. One unit of beasts was panicked off the table by a warpfire thrower (Unit of the game, BTW) and a few centigor died to ratling guns. I didn't get to magick much because Pete had 4 dispel scrolls, so magic was pretty nil. The stormvermin crashed into the Bestigor, with the warlord challenging the Beast Lord. Hefting his weeping blade, the Warlord smashed aside the beastlord, rolling a 6 for wounds and killing him with one hit! the bestigor were beaten and fled, but it turned the flank of my stormvermin to his minotaurs and a shaggoth (Ack!)

The remainder of the game saw the warpfire thrower panick lots of stuff, and my clanrats and slaves sitting on the objective until it was all over. Pete did manage to kill my warlord and his stormvermin, but it wasn't enough to overcome his losses and my claming of the objective. A 20pt win for me, but it was a good game and alot of fun.

Round 4 saw me matched up against another DL, Joe Puzzo with Nurgle. This was a match up that favored me, but again my lack of experience with the Skaven army hurt me. Joe sported 3 plague rider units and pap nurgle, so I knew this would be a hell of a tough fight.

Joe rolled the right flank with papa and 3 plagueriders, and in the center I dominated by killed 2 units of plagueriders. The game came down to Papa and 2 plagueriders against the stormvermin. He outnumbered me due to some losses in previous combats, so I threw every shot I had into the unit and hoped for the best. I took 6 wounds off of papa, and then the WPLC fired.... it just reached.... and I roll the artillery die..... strength 4... Knowing this roll wins the game if I wound and kill Papa, I chuck the dice only to see a 2 turn up. The stormvermin were slaughtered to a man, giving joe a win and me a 8 point loss.

Final round. I was now 2-2. It was a doubles match, so my allie was someone interclub. I got paired with the worst compliment for my army, Bill and his brets.

the game was long and drawn out, but here are some highlights:

Turn 1 WPLC shot into Travis' Keeper of Secrets, only to misfire and blow up.
Turn 3 the Keeper dies to brettonian archery!
Turn 6 Brettonian General gets charged by slaanesh daemonettes and a chariot, and not only lives, but wins the combat!

Travis and Derek had a ton of power dice in their high elf/slaanesh combo, so it was a tough match up. Hero of the game? 1 PWG. He single handedly fucked over their battle plans for our right flank by stopping a unit from charging for 5 turns! Awesome! Anyway, it was a 10 point draw.

Great tournament, and enxt time, I won't be so rookie!

well B.... maybe if you didn't suck in your units when i told you to expand!

blocking up lances is never a good thing.
I think if we would have each taken 1/2 of the table we woul have run them right the hell off of it. But, live and learn hind sight is 20/20.

None the less it was a fun game and a welcome change of pace.

Brian, I had a good time playing you. I know I break your balls about skaven, but you are always a great and fun opponent.

I think it is a racial stigma. Strength in numbers is easily fixed:

Strength in numbers for everything except slaves, slaves simply use the ld of the general. Rat ogres need a serious boost, despite working really well against Ludwig last night (3 Rat Ogres took out 12 flaggies, and 2 cannons.)

The issue really is that alot of people expect their hammer/light hammer units to smash through slaves/clanrats but they don't, so everyone docks it. It's not a big deal, but my issue is this:

Whatever I take I get docked, automatically. So do I take the 7-10pt hit (Still almost a full win) and play the moulder stuff for fun, or take the 11-15pt hit (A full win behind) and take all the power I can amass and smash everyone to pieces, going for best general?
