WoC Rules Questions

WoC Rules Questions

Postby MantisZero on Tue Nov 11, 2008 2:32 am

1.) What is the units strength of a Character riding a Demonic Mount, Jugger, Disc, and so on (all 1 wound mounts?)

Some were saying a Sorcerer Lord on a Demonic Mount was US 4 even though the mount is only 1 wound (1+1 = 2)

2.) Axe of Khorne: This axe confers +1 Strength and the Killing Blow special rule upon the bearer.

If i use a throwing axe or something like that, will it gain Killing Blow or is it only in close combat? Usually i would say its only in combat, but it says it gives the model the Killing Blow special rule...

Thoughts?

In order to be a monstrous mount it must have two or more wounds. Therefore all those mounts are not monstrous. The only mount rules left are those for cavalry, so we pretty much have to use those rules even if they're not on the right base size. So that means they are all unit str 2.

Killing blow page 95

"Rarely some models may have the ability of using the killing blow special rule with ranged attacks. When this is the case, it will be clearly specified in their special rules in the relevant army book's entry."

So no, a model with killing blow and a ranged weapon does not get the ability when shooting. (unless you're a waywatcher)

I thought US went based on the fact that characters on mounts are = US to the number of models they displace?

Nope, thats not in the rules anywhere.

Monster US = starting wounds +1 if mounted (nothing about displacing models here)

Cavalry US = 2 always

These mounts are not monsters. Only other type of mount is cavalry.

The cavalry rules do specifically mention a 25 x 50 base size. I would have to look closer to decide if that excludes these mounts from being cavalry. But it seems that these mounts being classified as cavalry despite the base size was the intent.

Also, because consistent base sizes are so fucked up in this game, I would hate to try and come up with any definitive rulings based on it.

Either way, there is no question that these mounts are not monsters.

In the discussion we had, we all determined they were not monsterous mounts, but i was still outnumbered by people saying they were US4.

I just thought if the mount has 1 wound, and the rider counts as 1 then they US would be 2.

Thanks for clearing those up Miles!

I am going off the example they used of the old Archaon- I am probably wrong, given that GW can't write a rule correctly.

How about this one:

Are Demon Princes even demonic?

The rules say nothing about it being demonic (all of the demons in the new book have "demonic" under thier entry). He gets a 5+ Ward which i assumed was because he was a demon, but his entry states he is made of the stuff of chaos so he gets a 5+ Ward again mentioning nothing about being a demon or demonic.

Also, none of the demon mounts in this book are listed as demonic, so does that mean they are not demons? If so, does this mean they do not have magical attacks either?

(I would assume they are all demons, makes sense to me but this is GW)
