Hordes: Take 2

Hordes: Take 2

Ok so I have observed an played my first games. Soem thoughts:

1. I like the basic system. Its a lot to keep track of, and the rules can a bit bogged down at points, but overall its fairly good. I also like that dice are not a big factor in the game. Andre was rolling really good, and I was rolling my usual average to below average, and I never felt out of the game due to dice. That's saying a lot after years of warhammer. You know I recall fantasy used to be less luck based, what changed?

2. On the downside, I don't think this game is as balanced as everyone says it is. Legion is clearly to good. The limited number of people I have spoken to about the game all say legion is to good, so it can't be just me. I don't think its their rules, so much as their ability to ignore rules. For example, leaving combat, sure its only 3 models, but its also the 3 best models that everyone takes. Or the soulless rules. Granted it never even came up in our games as we didn't use anything that affected souls, but the fact that they are totally immune to some of Skornes rules is BS. I hear circle can dish out some nasty shit too, but I haven't seen them yet.

3. I think I will stick with Skorne even if they are underpowered. I hate being "that guy" with the broke army. Plus I have a bitchin paint scheme in mind.

4, That said, I see what you guys were saying about synergy. The game is all about making the most retarded combos you can. Given that, I have no qualms about taking the most badass things Skorne can get. But what are those? Speed has to be a factor as the army is to slow with basic units. And what Warlock do you use? What is Skornes advantage? Brian was thinking it was high DEF and ARM, but that doesn't seem right to me, a lot of those Legion units were just as high or higher.

Skorne traditionally was the moving tank. Now, I don't think that works. I think you need to run Bloodrunners and paingivers as mainstay units to support the beasts. Molik Kharn is almost a must have, as well as a cyclops shaman. The shaman can cast any animus at -1 casting value, which is awesome since the canoneer and the titans have badass animi, as does kharn. Kharn hits like a ton of bricks, and has a bunch of special abilities. THe Master Tormenter solo is BADASS. After reading his rules, I'll definately be using Bloodrunners, Tormenter Master, Shaman, Kharn, and Voidseer Modikaar. THe rest is just fill ins; agonizer for fury manipulation, void spirits for assination runs (They get boosted attacks in mordikaar's control.) and of course, a rhinodon.

I need to read the metamorpisis units yet. Given what you are saying they changed things for Skorne considerably.

Based on the first two books I was leaning toward something like this:

Xerxis
4 Cetrarti
4 Aguraii
6 Venators
Rhinodon
4 paingivers
Gatormen

Of course I think I need at least one other light warbeast, so this needs some revision. Xerxis does some nasty shit with this army though. Any units in his CR can ignore friendly models for LOS and movement. So you can stack the venators behind the Cetrati and form a shield wall. Then shoot units and hurt them so the Gatormen go crazy and smash targets.

Also the Rhinodon can use its tail to knock dudes down, and then the venators hit easier. In addition the Aguraii do 3D6 damage, and with xerxis feat, 4D6 damage!

Its a start.

Read Meta and play a whole bunch before really settling down I think.

Skorne really go the most out of that book and it changed them a lot in terms of what they could do now.

In general term's here are the things you'd want to look at:

Cetratii
Basalisk Crea (awesome animus)
Ancestral Guardian
New Solo that helps out the Ancestral Guardian
Praetorians
Tyrant & Standard Bearer (from Meta, not sure if this is the name exactly)

Beasts I don't know too much about, though most of them are all really good.

Andre was rolling good again?

I read most of the rules in the Primal book, going to read it again this week since its dead as shit at work.

I bought the Epic Krueger model and i have a Warpwolf. I am going to get the cards for the regular Krueger, i just thought the epic model was badass! Ludwig is going to lend me his 750pts of Circle models so i can test out a ton of stuff.

With Legion, before meta they only had those 2 heavies. That's why you'll either see one or the other or both depending on the point value of the game. The Seraph, you have to take it out quick because of all it can do. It has a great range attack and its animus is one of the best out there. Forsakens you need to either stay away from or kill them before they get to you. They're aren't that tough and only have like 5 life.

They must be pretty tough Andre, I charged them with 4 cetratii and failed to kill one.
