Is it just me or is magic getting more and more ridiculous with each army book that comes out? Some of those spells are just ridiculous.

Flames of War is sounding pretty good.

Those spells have to be RIP!

Those two spells alone are the ultimate support for Skaven

That's why i'm saying the 25+ spell will not be used that often, there are better options. GW stores will have the book in store on saturday for preview. That part is 100% confirmed, per my actual conversion with a GW stores manager per his request for me to show up and preview the book. I was originally heading to showcase, i'm tempted to drive to jersey at noon to read the book, make notes and follow up if all those spells are actually true.

Also I weed through the wargear to see what's up with that. IE
-storm demon, weeping blade, fellblade, warp scroll, magic banners if they are still in.

Strength in Numbers
A new Skaven rule for increased leadership. All ranks beyond the first add to leadership to a max of LD 10. It is no longer limited to the first 3 ranks.

Life is Cheap
The only unit that has this is Poisoned Wind Globadiers. They can throw their globes into close combat.

Scurry Away
+1" to fleeing movement

Skaven Magic
Split between two domains: Ruin and Plague. Certain clan models get a certain domain. Almost all wizards can choose to take warp lighting instead of what they rolled.
Cracks Call: Casts on 11+ - Roll 4d6" draw a line. All models in that line make initiative test or are removed. Chariots make a 4+ save. Buildings are destroyed on 5+
The 13th Spell: Casts on 25+ - Target a unit within 24". Roll 4d6. Replace unit models with that many rats. If there is not that many, then replace only those that can be replaced. If there are more than that - they are destroyed. This is now a new unit under the casting players control.

Slaves
Cornered Rats - When the unit breaks it now deal wounds to all units within d6 inches, then is immediatley removed.
Expendable - Slaves still do not cause panic charges when they break.

Giant Rats
Can form ranks. Can get Leadership bonuses. In combat, the second rank also gets to attack.

Rat Ogres
Str 5, Toughness 6, 3 wounds Can form ranks. Get leadership bonus from ranks.

Warp Lighting Cannon
Shoots like a cannon. Roll the artillery dice for its strength. Misfire goes to chart. No longer has to flee as a charge reaction - cannot use grapeshot. Places small blast at the end of the shot resolving hits at strength rolled. Each hit is d6 wounds.

Screaming Bell
Plastic kit. Parts can be seen in the new White Dwarf on the watchtower.
The kit can also be used to make two other models from the book.

Doom Censer (a giant plague censer that is pushed around) The fumes cause harm to those in the area, and also cause problems for the crew.

Warpstone Catapult - A stone thrower - no special rules for the center of the template. Wounds all hit by template on 4+. If casualties are inflicted it causes a panic test.

Weapon teams
These are bought with a unit (clanrats, stormvermin). They must deploy within 3". If they stay within 3" of their parent, they get rank bonuses to their leadership, and also get 4+ ward save if within 3" of parent unit.
Warpfire thrower: Pretty much the same
Ratling gun - the dice now accumulate shots, not hits. Str 4 -2 armor.
Warpfire Mortar - treated like a stone thrower, using the teams or its parent unit's line of site. Wounds on 4+, Small blast.
Doom Flayer - kind of like a Goblin Fanatic. Big spiky ball that moves randomly and inflict hits + additional impact hits. Has 3+ armor save

~More as we get it. There are apparently some REALLY scary (and pricy) lords in the army book. Also, there is an uncanny family resemblence between Cracks Call and Jaws of the World Wolf don't you thing...

I don't think the overall list looks that bad, but the magic is just insane. They give skaven weaknesses, then use hte mgaic to compensate for them. Reminds me of the demon list....

What really sucks about this is every army has to be played magic heavy now. Between Gateway, HE, DE, Demons, and VC, oh and Lizards, magic is just to good not to take, so you need defense and they only way to get it is to go magic heavy. I think DE with Ring + Level 4 are getting even better, ignore 6's on Slann is AMAZING against Skaven. Ugh.

I actually think this list will give Demons and VC a run for their money. Will have to see how the lists actually play out.

Maybe it will be the army that topples one from the Big Three? IDK.

It all depends on items and the exact wording on spells. Even so, that -1T spell even being a RIP spells the doom of Elves and any T3 army. Slings wounding on 3's? And you can take like 200 of them? Bad news.

Picture Skaven VS the current Lizardmen builds. IE Clan rat's vs Skink blocks.
-clan rats hitting skinks on 4's, wounding on 2's, and actually being able to do something vs kroxigors.
-then you have the usefulness of being able to pop terradon's, and frankly swarm a EotG with slaves and drag it to the ground.
-i think you have a high probably of abusing the current list vs some of the top tier armies (demon's, vc), and getting torn to pieces by some of the lower tiered armies who are less effected (balanced DE, high elves, probably dwarves)

I got to skim some of the book. Disclaimer, i was playing a game, and could not get the hands on it for longer than 10 minutes, then the store owner left, and he took the book home.
Warp Lightning: engineers can default to the spell, I don't remember it hurting them any more, but I remember it only being d6.
Weeping blade: no long +1 str, d3 wounds, armor piercing
There was all kinds of wargear, I think something like 6 pages of it.
All the spell references are true.
Rat Ogres: 4 attacks, frenzy, can rank, T5? I overhead the T5 thing.
Rank bonus for however many ranks you have, max of LD 10
Shooting only slaves in combats
All the half point shield stuff, correct. Slaves can have half point slings. Clanrats get half point spears.
Warlocks start at 15 pts?? But you need the wargear to do anything.
Warlord: can ride a rat ogre
The abomination is hysterical.

Models: the bell and the plague bell version rock! I will try to get back to GW this week to read more on wednesday.
